Maximilian Schmige was born in Berlin, Germany and is a dual citizen of Germany and Finland. He is now a resident in the US. If it wasn't for his father, a well-known movie and TV writer in Germany, who encouraged him to pursue a career in film, he wouldn't have adventured into the movie business.
Schmige has photographed music video seen by over 100 million people. His documentary & reality TV work includes the highly rated TV series for BET "Nellyville" and "It's A Mann's World". He has filmed multicam shows for large crews for shows such as for NBC Sports. His recent achievements include working in virtual reality films. You cannot pigeon hole Schmige as he is a versatile director of photography in all aspects of the entertainment industry, He has filmed around the world in variety of climates from Alaska to the Malaysian jungle. Maximilian manages to balance his work between filming narrative, music video, commercial and documentary work.
He was awarded the Hollywood Foreign Press Award, FujiFilm Grant, and been nominated for his cinematography work at festivals.
He resides in Los Angeles and splits his time between the US, Europe and anyplace work takes him. He graduated from the American Film institute with a Masters in cinematography.
